The success of a greening system depends on the use of specially constituted substrate mixes to establish the vegetation layer. These substrates constitute the root zone for the plants and regulate the water and nutrient content to achieve balanced growth.

Applications of substrates
Applications of substrates
Different types of substrate mix are used depending on the type of greening required. For extensive greening, a substrate layer thickness of approximately 8 to 10 cm is recommended. This represents a loading of approximately 90 to 100 kg/m².
For intensive greening, a substrate layer thickness of at least 20 cm is recommended. This corresponds to a weight of about 260 kg/m² or more.
