Green spaces & domestic gardens

Parks, botanical gardens, allotments, gardens, sports facilities and playgrounds are all green spaces. They mostly serve as recreational and leisure areas. Green spaces are traditionally designed and created by landscape architects and landscape gardeners. Municipal service companies are often involved in their maintenance. In contrast to large green spaces, gardens are usually smaller and maintained by the owners themselves. Garden plots are used for the small-scale cultivation of edible or ornamental plants.

In addition to soil, plants, tools and machines, other materials such as non-woven fabrics, woven geotextiles, weed barrier fabrics and membranes are also used for creating the beds, paths and patios in the garden. Today, safety surfaces made of granulated rubber and synthetic turf are also used increasingly in green spaces and gardens. In public spaces, typical uses of synthetic turf are playgrounds, kindergartens, schools, restaurants and roof terraces.
