Immediate help
In the event of acute flooding, mobile, quick and easy-to-install measures are required to minimise potential damage as far as possible. The protection systems typically used here are mobile barrier systems.
Immediate measures can also be taken in civil engineering. In the event of an imminent overflow of a dyke, the infiltration of further surface water and at the same time the progressive erosion can be reduced when the overflow occurs.
Load-distributing, reinforced superstructures and rigid systems can also be used to build over soaked, low-load-bearing soils.

Improvement of access roads and softened dams
With the help of stretched geogrids, dyke defence paths or new access routes can be reinforced even in the most adverse ground conditions with reduced use of machinery and bulk material.
Softened dams at risk of overflowing can be sealed in the short term and without major earthworks by using quick-hardening concrete mats. At the same time, the concrete mats prevent progressive, deep erosion that could jeopardise the stability of the dam in the event of overflow.

Products for flood protection
BENTOMAT Geosynthetic Clay Liner
Geosynthetic clay liners (GTD), also known as bentonite mats, are geotextile composites that enclose a mineral sealing component made of highly swellable bentonite between two needled geotextile layers. The products are suitable for flood protection where a sealing effect is required and the application of a ballast layer against the swelling of the bentonite is possible.
CONCRETE CANVAS Concrete Mats
CONCRETE CANVAS is a flexible concrete composite consisting of two layers of fabric and an intermediate dry concrete mix in a three-dimensional fibre matrix. By adding water, the concrete mat hardens and forms a thin, durable and dense concrete layer. Due to its high robustness and quick installation, it is particularly suitable for immediate flood protection measures such as erosion protection of dam crests at risk of overflowing. In hydraulic engineering, it can be used wherever a sealing effect is required in the absence of ballast fill.
MACMAT R and R.E.C.S. COCCO erosion control mats
MACMAT R and R.E.C.S. COCCO are combined burrowing/erosion protection products made from double-twisted steel wire mesh with optional polymer coating and erosion protection made from synthetic or natural fibres. In addition to securing the topsoil layer until the embankment grows, they offer proven protection against burrowing and burrowing animals.
RENO PLUS Mattresses
RENO PLUS river mattresses are used as an effective method of securing embankments and river beds. The products are low-thickness, box-like structures made of a continuous steel wire mesh with a subdivision into chambers, which are filled with stones after unfolding. River mattresses are flexible and adapt perfectly to irregular river banks. They can be completely planted with vegetation and thus fulfil the requirements for near-natural riparian habitats.
River mattresses offer long-term protection against burrowing animals and thus serve as reliable bank protection.

Practical example
Renaturalisation of Pfrunger Ried
As part of the renaturalisation of the Pfrunger Ried, a large part of the nature reserve was restored to its original state. For the construction work and subsequent maintenance, safe tracks for heavy equipment had to be created on the water-saturated and extremely poorly load-bearing soil.
The solution: a floating path reinforced by the BEGRID TGV geogrid, which could be built directly on the existing ground without any major intervention in the surrounding area.
Sustainability
Sustainability is a key issue in the construction industry and is becoming increasingly important. With their versatile application possibilities, geobuilding materials offer ecological and economical solutions with high durability.
Geobuilding materials conserve resources
The increase in extreme weather events is directly linked to human-induced climate change. When planning flood protection systems, particular attention should therefore be paid to the selection of sustainable materials and low-emission system solutions. The use of geobuilding materials can significantly improve the energy balance of a structure, thereby conserving valuable resources, reducing emissions and lowering energy consumption. In many areas of application, geobuilding materials represent a more environmentally friendly alternative to conventional construction methods.
Environmental impact assessment
The products have passed an environmental compatibility test in accordance with M Geok E 2016 and most of them are labelled with an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD).
The EPD provides detailed information on the environmental impacts that arise during the entire life cycle of a building product and thus enables a comprehensive assessment of the ecological footprint of the building material.
