Protection of buildings and structures
Building protection mainly involves the protection of building components at risk from damage. Special building materials, such as structural protection mats and membranes, are used to protect sealing layers and building insulation from mechanical damage. They offer a cost-effective alternative to traditional methods such as protective coatings and protective concrete layers.
Since structural protection mats often have to mould to the shape of uneven surfaces, they are made of elastic materials such as granulated rubber. They are also relatively scratch, tear and impact resistant. The material is permeable to water and can be fully loaded immediately after unrolling and laying. It can be used as a simple temporary protective measure as well as for the permanent protection of buildings and structures.
Structural protection mats are used in buildings and civil engineering applications. The areas of application range from balconies and flat roofs to multi-storey car parks, underground car parks and tunnel construction. The most common area of application is the protection of sealing layers on flat roofs.
